Project: Waterfront vacation rental photo and video shoot
Location: Westport, Washington
Year: 2022

One of the memorable projects in 2022 was photographing and filming a waterfront vacation rental in Westport, Washington. The owner wanted images and video that showed what it feels like to stay there, especially the view, the layout, and the outdoor spaces. Being right on the beach is the main attraction at this place, so we planned the shoot around it. We used natural light and added off-camera lights to balance bright windows with the interiors. For video, we mixed drone footage (to show the setting on the water) with ground shots to highlight the home.
Inside, we focused on the details guests notice when they’re deciding if a rental feels comfortable and well put together: the dining room chandelier, the chef’s kitchen appliances, and the furniture and art choices that give the rooms a consistent look. The goal wasn’t to make the home look different than it is, just to make it easy to understand from photos and to make it look inviting: how the rooms connect, what’s spacious, and what’s worth a second look.
Outside, we highlighted the deck and the hot tub. We shot when the light was most flattering, and composed images that clearly show the seating, the deck space, and how close you are to the water because that’s what people are really booking.
If you’re listing a vacation rental, professional photos help guests answer the practical questions quickly: “Where is it, what’s the layout, what are the best features, and will it feel good to be there?” That’s my job as a photographer: make the property clear, accurate, and inviting.
