Marketing for Anthony’s Restaurants reached out to me with a request to create a consistent body of photographs for their 10 locations in Bellingham, Everett, Des Moines, Bremerton, Tacoma and Gig Harbor, Washington. They needed photos of the restaurants’ patios, bars, interiors and private dining spaces. The photos were going to be used on their website, social media and in print to showcase the unique atmosphere of each restaurant.

Anthony’s Restaurants is 29 family-owned waterfront restaurants that have been part of the Pacific Northwest dining scene for more than five decades since founding in 1971. One of the defining aspects of Anthony’s is its connection to seafood sourcing. The company operates its own seafood buying arm, Anthony’s Seafood Company, which works directly with fishermen and regional suppliers. Several locations began as more casual “HomePort” restaurants before being remodeled or expanded.

As I photographed bar areas and dining rooms, I saw that the interiors were designed to frame what’s outside: pleasure boats, passing ferries and marinas, reinforcing the idea that guests are dining within the waterfront landscape. This assignment reminded me how important it is to capture not just the interior design, but company’s legacy. Anthony’s Restaurants is not a uniform chain. It is a regional institution shaped by local sourcing, waterfront geography, and multigenerational stewardship. I tried to translate that history and sense of place into images of patios filled with evening light, bars set for service, interiors ready for guests, and private rooms prepared for meaningful gatherings, photos that reflect the lived story behind each location.
